Jazz Intensive 2025
This year, we are presenting our Jazz Intensive in an exciting, new way. This is an amazing summer opportunity for middle and high school musicians who are interested in diving deeper into jazz and improvisation. In addition to taking on a different format, we are also offering this program FREE OF CHARGE to all participants, thanks to the generosity of the Eric Davis Jazz Fund. Enrollment is by invitation or teacher nomination (band teacher, private instructor, school teacher or parent, in certain cases). If you would like to nominate your student or ask your teacher about a nomination, please use the link at the bottom of this page. PLEASE NOTE: the drum and bass seats have now been filled for this Intensive. There is still plenty of room for brass, woodwinds, mallets and piano.
This experience will differ from a typical MCMA day camp. Instead of a focus on developing repertoire, it will be more focused and, well, intense! It will meet each day, August 11th to August 15th, from 12pm-3pm. The experience will involve as much playing, listening, improvising, thinking and sharing as humanly possible, all geared toward developing a different idea of what "Jazz" means to a young person in 2025, and how the concepts of jazz can support our musical development and expression.
The week will be led by Tom Luther, and each player will also have plenty of one-on-one time with an instructor who teaches their instrument.
Please email MCMA Director Jen Feldman with any questions.
