Kate Fiano

Kate Fiano is a born and raised New Englander. After graduating from the University of Vermont with a B.S. in Music Education, she joined the Northwestern Counseling and Support Services’ Adaptive and Expressive Arts team in St. Albans, Vermont, before deciding to move to the West Coast. While in the San Francisco Bay Area, Kate joined The Center for Music National Service as a MusicCorps Teacher and taught general music at two public elementary schools, one in San Francisco and one in Oakland, California. In 2012, Kate became the music director at a public middle school in San Lorenzo, CA. She led the school’s advanced string orchestra to a music festival win of both Best in Category and Best Overall Performance. Kate completed a master’s degree in music from California State University in 2020, and she is currently the Music Director at Hope Elementary School in Hope, Maine, where she teaches pre-K through fifth grade general music, fifth grade beginning band, and middle school concert band and choir. 


Kate is also a singer-songwriter and has released two albums; Finding the Brighter Side, released in 2008, and Revolution, released in 2012. Kate has taken the stage at popular venues across the country. Some highlights include Nectar’s (Burlington, VT), Higher Ground (Burlington, VT), The Sterlingtown Pub (Union, ME), Black Eyes Sally’s (Hartford, CT), White Horse Bar Inn (Oakland, CA), and El Rio (San Francisco, CA).  Kate is currently a member of the Maine Songwriters Association, and, since moving to Maine, has been writing new songs and performing throughout the Midcoast. This year, you can find Kate joining singer-songwriter rounds at Hey Sailor!, participating in original music nights at Lucky Bettys, and enjoying a summer residency at The Carriage House in Thomaston, Maine.
