Zachary Bence

Zachary Bence is a multi instrumentalist based in Midcoast Maine. In 2006 he attended William Paterson University in New Jersey as a Jazz performance major where he studied privately with solo guitar virtuoso Gene Bertoncini and with vibraphonist and composer Kevin Norton. In addition to these private studies, Zachary had the great fortune to play in ensembles directed by a number of jazz luminaries including the late Mulgrew Miller and Harold Mabern.

After moving back to Maine in 2013, Zachary has gone on to record, perform and tour the US with a number of Maine artists including Spencer Albee, Griffin Sherry (of Ghost of Paul Revere), Chris Ross, Louisa Stancioff, The Rustic Overtones and numerous others.

Zachary began teaching private music lessons professionally while attending university, working at ‘The Guitar Studio’ in Berkeley Heights, NJ. Through years of teaching students of all ages on a variety of instruments, Zachary was able to develop his own approach to music pedagogy - eschewing one size fits all method books to meet each student where their musical interests and goals reside. Whether your aspiration is to strum songs around the campfire or pursue music on an academic or professional level, Zachary offers tailored instruction focused heavily on building strength in ear training and improvisation within a framework of learning the music that speaks to each unique student.
