Private lessons at mcma
Our professional faculty offer instruction on acoustic and electric guitar, upright bass, bass guitar, digital music, piano, ukulele, drum set, world percussion, violin, viola, voice, trumpet, and clarinet to students ages 5 and above (for the younger budding musicians in the midcoast, we highly recommend Midcoast Music Together programming!). At the beginning of each semester, instructors and students set goals that will be used to chart the student's learning and help provide context for weekly lessons. Over the course of the semester, instructors will help students develop practice routines that feel fun and manageable, expand students' musical horizons by suggesting listening homework, and engage students in age-appropriate theory like notation, sight reading, and ear training. Private lessons often include student and instructor improv sessions like the one below.
If you are just starting out on your instrument, we can help you choose a make and model that's right for you and recommend local business for rentals and purchases. We also have a small selection of loaner instruments that can be borrowed on a weekly basis for practice sessions if needed.
To get started...
We always suggest that prospective students schedule a one time introductory lesson to determine if the lesson will be a good fit for both the student and instructor. These include a tour of our facilities, a lesson to get acquainted with a student’s prospective instructor, and a discussion of student goals and interests.
