We are hiring
Organizational Overview:
Midcoast Music Academy (MCMA) is a community music school founded in February 2012 and located in beautiful Rockport, Maine that provides the highest quality music instruction to students of all ages and skill levels in a fun, relaxed, and creative environment. MCMA emphasizes equitable access to music instruction and combines the fundamentals of music – theory, notation, and ear training – with a contemporary approach to learning.
We are an actively growing school with a wonderful community of families and students seeking to build upon our strong team of instructors. We currently have a base of over 170 students and six faculty and work with a range of community organizations, schools, and outreach programs in the Midcoast area.
Position Descriptions:
We are accepting applications for outstanding musicians and educators to work as private instructors as a part of our faculty. We are particularly interested in guitar, drum and percussion instructors, though all teaching inquiries are welcome.
Multi-instrumentalists are preferred as this often translates well to working with groups; ability and interest in teaching music theory and notation is essential. Applicants should be comfortable working with a wide age range, including young musicians, and teaching the early fundamentals in addition to more advanced theory.
Our instructors are part-time independent contractors, most of whom teach multiple days a week. Our busiest teaching hours are Monday-Thursday from 2:30-7:30pm; availability during these hours is necessary.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Music or education degree strongly preferred, equivalent professional experience considered;
Music teaching experience required, in either private lesson or school setting;
Strong communication skills and a creative, inspiring, and fun approach to education;
A passion for music education with a strong commitment to teaching theory and notation;
Desire to work with young students, beginners of all ages, and groups;
Ability and interest in teaching a wide variety of genres, including contemporary rock, pop, jazz, blues, folk, and/or classical; and
Commitment to a regular weekly, year-round schedule on a long-term basis;
Ability to pass a background check.
Benefits:
Competitive hourly rate ($30-$45) based on experience and education;
Flexible schedule based on availability (within MCMA’s operating and high traffic hours)
Liability insurance under MCMA’s umbrella;
Creative freedom to design speciality classes and workshops based on professional interests;
Paid performance opportunities for events;
Rehearsal space for personal projects (based on MCMA calendar)
Flexible schedule ideal for teaching artists and professional musicians; and
Strong community of active families, dedicated students, exceptional teachers and supportive administration.
